Trek to Moose Factory - Febuary 2000

Day One

Lots of last minute preparations. I had just finished packing, only to find a nice puddle of oil under the engine. This was not the sign I wanted to see before a long trip. I quickly replaced the gasket for the rocker cover. It seems my rover tends to protest every-time I go on a long trip. However, it has never let me down while I have been travelling. I quickly jotted down the number of Paul Safari Components, in the event of a disaster he can ship just about any part in 2 days.

I hit the road early to get an early sleep tonight. Tomorrow I will have to leave North Bay by 2:00am to have my vehicle loaded before the train leaves Cochrane. I am not looking forward to this drive.

It was a gorgeous day for driving, not a cloud in the sky. Towards 3:00pm, my feet started to go numb. This is one of the few drawbacks of owning a land rover…very little heat in the winter. I puttered into a service station to take a break and warm my feet. As I turned the ignition, it gave a nice loud ‘ka-boom’, which was a bit embarrassing, as it was very bust here.

I was on route again, feet much warmer now. Mental note: wear winter boots for tomorrow’s drive! I arrived in North Bay in good time, in bed by 11:00pm.
